“One of the most important things I’ve done to make my restaurant better is have Jay Berman install a video security system. Monitoring employees for theft is usually what you think a surveillance system is for. Once you get one, you’ll find that reason only minor to the other ways it improves your business and helps you be more profitable.
If I would have known the benefits of doing so, I would have done so five years ago. At that time, however, the cost of doing so seemed prohibitive because systems were about $10,000 - $40,000. Now surveillance is affordable to the small business. Here are a few examples of how the cameras made my business more profitable, safer and better staffed for the guests’ experience.
I can log in on the Internet and view what is going on in my restaurant anywhere and anytime allowing me to manage from home or in a hotel room.
My guests are better served. Once the cameras were installed, my staff acted much more responsible and professional. Where they once huddled together gossiping and neglecting their guests, they have since became much busier at work.
I save money on labor costs because I can see where time is wasted and the cameras help in deterring temptation to steal or waste.
I no longer lose countless productive work hours to employees talking on their cell phones because I can enforce the ‘no cell phone policy at work’ with the recorded video.
I now have a wonderful honest and much happier staff making my job much easier. The security system quickly weeded out the bad employees that were dragging my business profitability and staff morale down. The employees that balked the most at having ‘Big Brother’ at work, were the ones that were abusing the work environment by stealing or otherwise engaging in appropriate activity like using the company time and company computers for their own personal use.
I can leave my restaurant to others with less worry. The cameras identify everybody coming through the doors. This feature led me to dismiss an employee that had manipulated the time clock to add on another 20-40 minutes to his pay every day. This feature also allows me to be comfortable in giving a key to service providers and vendors who need to enter 5the premise when I cannot be there.
I can quickly review any shift, at any time frame, because the recordings are all stored on a hard drive. The program is very user-friendly.
My business is safer with surveillance recordings. I can monitor that the employees are using safety precautions. While I hope I never need to use the recorded videos for risk management instances, I can see the value of the images in protecting against a workers comp claim or the liability of a guest slip and fall accident.
I can review the videos for employee training.
And, of course, the cameras act as a deterrent for food, wine and supplies going out my back door. My cost of goods has decreased since installing the cameras.
Jay is great to work with because he really understands the restaurant business and how to protect my business from security vulnerabilities. He also is very knowledgeable about technology and able to troubleshoot your systems to obtain the maximum security coverage. His follow-up service is exceptional. Whenever I have a question, he’s just a phone call away.
In addition, he has a very practical approach to offer you the most value for your investment. My surveillance system probably paid for itself in the first month or two of operation.
Most of all, I love being able to ‘check in’ to see how everything is going at my restaurant when I’m not there too."
