The Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company Choose ACTi’s Megapixel Bullet Cameras, January 8, 2009

The Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Company is a ferry service provider based in Long Island, NY.  Located just 50 miles from New York City, Port Jefferson is a maritime transportation HUB connecting Long Island with Bridgeport, CT.  Physical security is a paramount concern for a major transportation provider like The Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Co.  With 3 ferries to secure, and terminals to monitor, a reliable video surveillance solution was required.  To meet the highest security standards of the US Government, they chose ACTi to provide the highest quality of network video surveillance solutions.

Each vessel utilizes 22 x ACM1231 Megapixel network video cameras.  Cameras surrounding the vehicle deck provide a video log of all cars entering and exiting, while cameras from the passenger decks are monitored to provide physical site security.  All video is managed by a Video-Insight Server with two remote clients on each vessel.  Additionally, security officers at the terminal and docking facility can remotely monitor real time video via a mobile broadband connection.
The system installation was provided by Emergency Electronic Services, Inc located in Setauket, NY.  Hugh Whitsit, CEO, was directly involved in helping choose ACTi as the preferred solution for this important transportation security application.  “ACTi’s ACM1231 was chosen due to its weather tight enclosure that met our application requirement,” said Whitsit.  “We like ACTi’s Megapixel cameras for their capability to showclearer details when enhancing video” during playback and live viewing of the video, adding “we also like them for the affordability.”

Civic Centers in the United States host a variety of public events, ranging from full conventions like ASIS or ISCWest, to car shows, to sporting events, or gun shows.  During these events there are many security issues that can occur in a public form like the Anaheim Convention Center. These range from trespassing, theft, arson, riots or acts of public disorder.  The Department of Homeland Security has also deemed city convention centers a likely place for a possible terrorist attack and has made great strides in helping to secure locations like the Anaheim Convention Center.
This installation consists of over 350 channels of encoded video using ACTi SED-2410, two-channel video server, all of which are rack mounted to allow for a better space-saving configuration.  This system is controlled by an ONSSI head end that is also part of the City of Anaheim central operations center.  The Anaheim Police Department also has access to surveillance video via a remote connection, so in the event of an emergency, the police can pull up live video to aid in the deployment of first responders.

Why Chose ACTi?

Before the project was completed, the Anaheim Convention Center had many analog cameras ranging from fixed box cameras to PTZ’s. Once connected to ACTi’s video servers, all of their video was migrated over to an IP based solution with effective use ofthe existing network infrastructure. This allowed operators to view video at full frame rate (30 fps) with minimal bandwidth consumption per channel.

Ave of the Stars has always been a well-known hot spot for tourism in Los Angeles, CA. The Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel, fronting the spectacular fountains on Avenue of the Stars, is a landmark 19-story luxury hotel forming a sweeping crescent design. With thousands of visitors, well-known celebrities and busy shopping centers nearby, it is important to implement the best available security equipment. The local installer chose and integrated ACTi IP network cameras with LuxRiot software for this important application . Surveillance devices deployed were two ACTi megapixel cameras, including ACM-7411, IP network PoE IP66 rugged D&N dome with vari-focal,  and ACM-3411, IP network PoE mini D&N dome.

Why Chose ACTi?

“Video quality performance, stability and price were the main reasons they chose ACTi’s IP cameras. They like the fact of finding all kinds of cameras in the complete ACTi product lineup to fit any types of application they are looking for.  For this particular project, the low-cost entry level megapixel camera of ACM-3411 was perfect for the application especially in this time of the economy recession.” , says the system integrator. Moreover, most of ACTi's network cameras are equipped with PoE, which made the installation a lot easier throughout the complex and the superb night performances made viewing in dark sections of the hotel and parking lot possible.  Due to the previous installation of LuxRiot, a valued software partner with ACTi, the integrator liked the idea that ACTi cameras are fully compatible with known Independent software vendors in the industry. In short, high Price and Performance ratio was the key factor for the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza to go for ACTi.

ACTi's Megapixel IP Cameras installed at Union County Public Schools in Union, Missouri, USA

ACTi corporation's megapixel network cameras are installed in a school district in Union, Mo., near St. Louis, to provide security at the high school, one middle school and three elementary schools. The system design and installation was provided by American Digital Security (ADS), Liberty, Mo. After ADS priced the equipment and work specified by the school, it also suggested a different system than the one requested by submitting an alternate bid. The result: the schools are now receiving better security than they originally requested.

"The Union school district decided to install the ACTi megapixel cameras when they realized that cost of megapixel was not that much more than standard analog. When the ACTi cameras were able to give them 10 times the image quality of your standard CCTV cameras, it was an easy choice." Buddy Mason, President American Digital Security.

“It’s an unbelievable system we’re putting in the Union School District for an unbelievable price,” maintains Ken Richards, regional sales director for American Digital Security’s St. Louis region. “It’s all Internet protocol cameras, all megapixel cameras — all the newest technology.”

All the schools except one elementary school are linked by fiber-optic cable. Cameras can be viewed remotely over the Internet by authorized personnel or police from outside the building. Because of the high-definition, megapixel cameras used, both the front entrance and the office can be included in the same single-camera view.

The high school has its own server center security room with three 19-inch LCD monitors, and the middle school has two monitors in its security room. These are separate systems. ExacqVision’s software is being used as the management software.

The high school has approximately 50 cameras inside and 20 outside. “The cameras cover pretty much the entire facility — the hallways, every entrance, the gym and the cafeteria,” Richards lists. “Every single camera is basically a PTZ,” Richards maintains. “It has to do with their image quality. You can pan, tilt and zoom in each image live or recorded.”

The middle school has 42 cameras that cover every entrance, most of the hallways and corridors, stairwells, the cafeteria and the outside perimeter of the building, reports Jeff Vanzee, director of facilities and operations for the Union School District.

One of the elementary schools has a server and three cameras on site, and the other two elementary schools have one camera each showing the front entrance and office. This keeps a record of those entering and exiting the school, because it is the only entrance that is unlocked from the outside.

“During the last year we have noted an increased requirement for network video systems from the educational sector worldwide. I am very pleased tosee that the cooperation with ADS has resulted in greatly increased security and protection for the students and staffs of the Union County Public Schools," says Chenyu Liu, Sales Director of ACTi Corporation.
